Iron Man, Giant Man (formerly known as Ant Man), the Wasp, and Thor intercepted a message from Rick Jones to capture the Hulk. Loki plotted a ruse to pit us against the Hulk. The Hulk joined our merry crew and we formed the Avengers. The Hulk's instability and perhaps our own paranoia caused a rift and he left shortly after joining.
We next discovered Captain America from the 1940s frozen in ice when we fought Namor. He became our first recruit and the heart of the team and was given founder status.
